I have just finished reading Lowell Feld's and Nate Wilcox's new book "Netroots Rising" describing the growth in importance of the netroots and the blogosphere in the our democracy. It is a fascinating read. I was especially fascinated at the description of the contribution of the blogging community in causing the downfall of Tom Delay and the description of the Jim Webb phenomenon.

Lowell Feld was one of the leaders of the draft Jim Webb movement. Using his blog Raising Kaine Lowell and his band of merry bloggers built a groundswell of support that convinced Jim Webb to enter the race. This groundswell of support translated into a "ragtag army" of committed volunteers that enabled Webb to win both the primary and the general election despite being outspent over 2 to 1. Lowell was in the middle of all this from the beginning and the account in the book is a fascinating read.

Citizens. if you beleive that John McCain's heroic record of service makes him the veteran's friend then you need to look closely at his voting record. It is a record ofdeceit, cynicism and neglect.

Congratulations, young man or woman! You were a patriotic member of the United States All Volunteer Military. You volunteered to serve with the full expectation that "Support the Troops" was not just empty rhetoric piously mouthed by politicians, generals, and the yellow-ribbon-displaying American public.

Today I start a series profile individual members of Empowering Veterans, Inc.’s "Worst 10" list of incumbent Senators up for reelection in 2008. These postings are intended to persuade you to volunteer to join the grass roots movement to oust them. You can join up by visiting EmpoweringVeterans.org. Today we start with Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and I will proceed through the "Worst 10" list in alphabetical order over the next few days.
However, before proceeding, let me express my sincere appreciation for the overwhelming response to my posting yesterday. It was over the top and resulted in many volunteers enlisting in the effort. I hope for similar results today.

Empowering Veterans, Inc. Unveils its "Worst 10" list of incumbent Senators up for reelection in 2008. These people are very pious in the "Support the Troops" rhetoric, but most hypocritical when it comes to voting to support members of the Armed Forces and their families and veterans and their families.
